I find that some mornings when I wake up I don't really want to go to work...I'm an electrical engineer and my workplace turns me into a robot! I usually get up and go to work anyways and I always feel better once I get there and am surrounded by my cube buddies.

Some days I wake up and I really, really don't want to run. Or I get home from work and I really, really, really don't want to run. BUT I know that I'll feel better after. So even if I absolutely hate myself I lace 'em up and I push myself out the door and when I get home, I always feel better. :)

I once wrote a list of 30 ways I've kept running the past 30 years. Maybe one will strike you:

LOL: "fricking internet-wide 1000 mile challenge"

Who in their right mind would do that? :-)

I agree, no races coming up, so that's one thing... That's how I "made" myself start running a few years ago in the first place... signed up and then had to run. Guess I need to put the side distractions away for a bit and just do it. And I should really look for something to sign up for.

Plus, just the fact that you all left comments makes me realize that people still read this, and people are still motivating themselves... and I can draw some inspiration from that!

Promise you all that I'll run after work tonight!

Motivation, Jamie?

Well, it might help to make a public commitment, like... oh... I don't know... starting a fricking internet-wide 1000 mile challenge? :-)

Other things that motivate me:

Friends to run with. Call or write and set up a time to meet for a run.

Group runs. Join a club, a training group, or just the group run at your local running shoe store. Having something scheduled helps me.

And like Katie and Lyrehca, I find it motivating to train for and run races. Even if I don't have any great expectation for the race, it gets me out and running.

Hey Jamie, keep at it!!! Just remember how good you feel when you finish a run. I'm like Lyrehca-- I sign up for a 10K or 8K something, so it will FORCE me to train.
Surely there are some good races coming up in CA...? :)

I found you after reading about other diabetic athletes. I signed up to do my first mini triathlon and the training is keeping me going. I don't know what's going to motivate me after the event is over... guess I'll have to sign up for another one. Good luck with getting back at it.
